John F Cunningham Aquatic Complex is located at 801 Heartwood Avenue in Vallejo and is operated by the Greater Vallejo Recreation District. It's a substantial outdoor community aquatic facility rather than simply a neighborhood swimming pool.

The main pool measures 50 meters long by 25 yards wide, with depths ranging from approximately 4 to 13 feet and two 1-meter diving boards. The complex also has a children's pool. Programs currently include lap swimming, recreational swimming, group and private swim lessons, water exercise, Aqua Zumba, aquatic camps and lifeguard training.

It's also recently benefited from significant improvements. GVRD completed a phase of renovations in 2025 that included new pool-deck concrete, plumbing and plaster, improvements to the registration office, ADA-compliant restrooms and showers, gender-neutral pool-deck restrooms, and the children's pool.

Interestingly, Cunningham is also one of the few pools in the country with a movable shallow end, according to the Vallejo Aquatic Club, and the pool has even appeared on an episode of MythBusters.
